Abel Garza Jr. was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, growing up in a humble household with hardworking parents who instilled in him strong values of responsibility, perseverance, and faith. When his father fell ill, the family could no longer afford to keep their home. Unable to make ends meet, his mother had no choice but to move the family into public housing — the projects. Those early hardships, though painful, helped shape Abel's character, resilience, and relentless work ethic in ways that would define the rest of his life.
After graduating from high school, Abel went straight to work and secured a job with the City of Corpus Christi, where he worked faithfully for 19 years. During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Alanis — now Cynthia Garza. Their marriage has lasted over 37 years, built on commitment, faith, and shared perseverance through difficult seasons of life.
A turning point came when the city discarded an old, broken-down striper machine. Seeing potential where others saw scrap, Abel asked if he could take it home. His coworkers laughed and told him he could. “Another man's trash is another man's treasure.”
Abel brought the machine home, repaired it with his own hands, and began taking on small side jobs after work. What began as a simple side hustle soon revealed something bigger — a vision for independence and building something lasting for his family.
Cynthia played an essential role in building the foundation of the business. While raising their children and working at the Nueces County Appraisal District, she also pursued her own college education — until Abel's dream began to take shape. She made a significant sacrifice, stepping away from her own academic path to help support her husband's vision.
While Abel worked in the field, Cynthia nurtured their children, provided wisdom and encouragement during difficult seasons, and managed the office and administrative side of the business — becoming a true co-founder of Abel's Paving & Construction.

In 2004, Abel & Cynthia officially founded Abel's Paving & Construction, Inc. Starting with limited resources but relentless determination, they worked tirelessly to build a company that would provide for their family and serve their community. Through long days, hard labor, and unwavering faith, the company grew into what it is today — a testament to what hard work, faith, and bold decisions can build.
